First off, what is 3D printing? I’ll try not to dwell on this question too long, but I’ll give you an idea. Before a product can be 3D printed, it has to be drawn up on the computer by an engineer or a designer. This computer file will then be sent to a 3D printer, where the intelligent computer on the printer will recognize the dimensions. The printer will then begin to use ink jet technology to lay down layers of material, sometimes smaller than a fraction of hair. (And I mean the diameter of a hair too) As each layer of material is stacked up, it will be fused together through laser melting technology, or an adhesive chemical. As the layers keep coming down, the machine will continue to fuse the layers together through melting it with a laser or adhesive chemicals. By the time hundreds of layers have come down, a product will be created! That is 3D printing in a nutshell: layer by layer assembly of material, and the fusion of that material in accordance to the 3D design.

Now that all sounds flashy and all, but what can it do? Well, 3D printing has a wide variety of applications in the world. It has been used for prototyping product ideas for quite a while. Very precise parts have been developed for special engineering projects. 3D printing is active in the world of technological advances; for example: it is assisting in the development of paper thin solar strips. 3D Printing is also very active in the medical world – a titanium jaw has been replicated, prosthetics have been developed, and even functional artificial body parts have been made, such as urethras, bladders, and veins. There is no doubt that 3D printing has played a role in the world we know today, but it also targets a very specific demographic of people.

3D artists and gamers have been targeted by 3D printing, as it is an inexpensive way for them to create their creations! 3D software is pretty easy to get a hold of, so almost anyone can at least try to develop products or characters. I want to mention one “software” in particular. The game Minecraft sticks out to me. If you haven’t heard of it, it is a cheesy game in which you are essentially an architect, putting together hundreds of little blocks together of assorted detail, which make a landscape. So basically, it is a game that allows for the creation of massive landscapes with poor graphics. This game is very popular on the internet. Firstly I think I should let you know how much you can fit inside the Revolution. I have had an iPad 2, MacBook, iPhone, iPod touch, three pairs of headphones, five chargers, Canon T3i/600D, two DVDs, Magic Mouse, a Pico Projector, an iMaingo X and a Coke. That’s quite a lot I think you’ll agree. And to fit all that you’ll need a lot of compartments which we definitely do have here.

The main section is at the rear of the bag which can fit what ever you desire. You can fit a huge amount here and this is the perfect part to put things like sketch books and documents. Within this section you have a sub compartment and on the back of that a sleeve for your iPad and that works really well and accepts cases attached. The actual sub compartment is designed for your laptop which for me is a MacBook but it’s a 13 inch screen and the placement built for laptops works with bigger screens better. My MacBook wasn’t completely cuddled by the compartment, it wasn’t mega loss but if you could adjust this part a little would be so much more peace of mind friendly. Having said that it is cleverly designed for what it is, if you just throw the bag on the floor or happen to drop it the laptop is a little risen within the air protecting it and your laptop is suffocated in padding. Talking of the padding which is all over the bag and very thick and will protect your goods but also each section of the bag is very stiff which also helps everything stay in place and not move about.

The front section is filled to the brim with sub sections which include an array of pockets for things like headphones, SD Cards, iPods etc and then you have a medium sized compartment directly behind the pockets and in front of all that another huge pocket is positioned. When we look at the outside of the STM Revolution pacifically at the front we have yet another pocket which is really nicely padded protecting products against scratches. To either side of the bag drink holders are strapped on. One inclusion which I won’t ever need but will be very useful for some is a water resistant cover for super heavy rainfall, that’s located tightly at the bottom of the bag via velcro which again adds to whole defence for shock absorbance when kept at the bottom. To use the cover you simply wrap it around the bag but once applied you can’t access anything from the inside but why would you want to when it’s raining so hard?

Getting things out is pretty easy, the zippers are snappy and placement of bigger things like my iPad and MacBook are in there own compartments so it’s a zip and grab situation. But with things like my Pico Projector and iMaingo X they just seem to get lost within the bag. The pockets are useful for keeping cables and headphones in one place and conveniently accessible.

Actually wearing the bag over the shoulders is really pleasant. The padding is very thick along the shoulders straps and the rear of the bag against your back which is great because once you load it up like me the weight just makes the bag more comfy to wear and the weight is very well distributed due to the ergonomic design. Also this may sound surprising considering how much you put inside the Revolution but the bag isn’t the biggest in the world, it’s quite a good size and is perfect for taking on a plane or having in the car or on the bus.

Overall the STM Revolution is an awesome bag for those on the go and want pretty much all technology gear in one place. Accompanied by superb padding equalling awesome protection and convenient compartments make this the best pack pack designed around gadgets.

How To Use Multitasking Gestures On Your iPad

Hi there. Today’s iPad tip of the day article is all about “Multitasking Gestures”. What are Multitasking Gestures you ask? Multitasking Gestures are a really cool way to use the apps on your iPad. In fact, using Multitasking Gestures, you can do things like lock your screen rotation, adjust the brightness and play music and even adjust the volume all without even touching a single button.

This is how it goes.

Firstly, you must activate Multitasking Gestures. To do this, you go into Settings then select General then scroll down until you see Multitasking Gestures and make sure that it is selected to ON. Now lets go back to the Home Screen. Actually, just before you do that, we can right now use one of the Multitasking Gestures to go to the Home screen. Do this: Put all five fingers on the screen at once and then move together to a point. This will take you straight to the Home Screen. This can be done any time you want to go back to the Home Screen.

The next cool thing that you can do is this: Put four or five fingers on the iPad screen right now and slide up. You will now see the recently used apps along the bottom. Touching any of these apps now will open them. But, now, just before we open them, we are going to do something else. Touch the recently used app area and slide your finger to the right so that you are looking at something that is off to the left of the screen. Ok, right now you will see a screen lock control, a brightness control, the play button along with skipping forward and back buttons, volume control and also the Music app. It is very handy to know that this is always there anytime you want to play music. For those of you with an iPhone, there is a similar display.

The handiness of all this doesn’t just end there. Now put four fingers on the screen, slide up and then select a recently used app. Ok, now that you have opened the app, you can change between your recently used apps simply by sliding left or right using four fingers. Try this now.

Multitasking Gestures are very handy. Once you start using them more and more they become a fast and instinctive way to navigate through your iPad.
